Why Natural Soap

Organic Natural Soap

AWSB handcrafts soap using the slow cold process method, which means no external heat is used so the goodness of the natural ingredients are preserved for you as much as possible. Each bar begins with a high percentage of nutrient rich certified organic extra virgin olive oil to which we add certified organic coconut oil for fluffy lather, sustainable certified organic palm oil to increase longevity, certified organic high oleic sunflower oil for its superior skin care properties, and certified organic castor oil for a dense creamy lather that conditions and moisturizes.

We also add responsibly wildcrafted and certified organic botanicals, purifying earth clays, and tropical butters for their exceptional skin care benefits. Finally, we scent our wildly aromatic olive oil soaps with only pure essential oils extracted from plants... fresh clean scents, the way mother nature intended.

Why use that fake evil corporate "soap stuff" when our real natural soap feels so much better? :)

What Does "Wildcrafted" Mean?

Wildcrafted means that we ethically harvest plants, herbs, and botanicals from their natural, wild habitat rather than from a commercial farm. Unlike conventional farming, wildcrafting does not use pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers. Wildcrafted plants grow in natural ecosystems where they develop stronger, more complex nutrient profiles and phytochemical compounds than their farm-raised counterparts.

Why We Use Only Pure Essential Oils

AWSB only uses pure essential oils to scent our soaps. Essential oils are natural aromatic compounds extracted from plants through distillation or cold pressing. Besides their wonderful natural scents, many essential oils also have beneficial properties for the skin. Unlike synthetic fragrances, pure essential oils do not contain artificial chemicals, phthalates, or other potentially harmful additives.

When shopping for soap, look for products that list specific essential oils by name. This transparency indicates a commitment to genuine natural ingredients and allows you to research the specific benefits of each oil.

Synthetic Additives to Avoid

Avoid fragrance oils, perfume oils, potpourri oils, and nature identical oils which are all different words for synthetic fragrance oils. Many of them contain unknown or toxic ingredients, they pollute our environment, and they're one of the biggest causes of skin irritation and skin sensitivities today. The bottom line? If an oil doesn't have a latin botanical name, then it's not a true essential oil and it has no aromatherapeutic benefits.

Other synthetic additives to avoid are FD&C colors, dyes, antibacterial triclosan & triclocarban, EDTA, TEA, DEA, sodium laureth and sodium lauryl sulfates, to name a few. They're not kind to your skin, your health or our environment. Steer clear.

The Truth About Goat's Milk Soap

We like a good goat's milk soap as much as the next guy. But some companies want you to believe that their soaps are made mostly of goat's milk or that goat's milk somehow dramatically lowers the pH of their handmade soap to make it more gentle. Neither of those claims are true. Handmade soap has a naturally alkaline pH between about 9 and 10 whether it contains goat's milk or not. Goat's milk is a nice additive in handmade soap, but it does not fundamentally change the product or make it dramatically gentler than other well-made natural soaps.
